Munich: The Prince’s Theatre

The Project: Reconstruction and technical changes

The reconstruction followed two objectives:
The first was to undertake a renovation of the theatre in order to get modern and economic working conditions on and around the stage. At the same time, new localities had to be built for the classes of the theatre academy.

Besides the lecture rooms, a studio theatre was integrated into the building. Now the theatre could be rebuilt at its original place. It had been used as a rehearsal stage before.

The theatre academy has to cover its expenses also by renting the theatre. In spite of limited financial means, a flexible stage technology had to be conceived that would allow the mounting of sets for all kinds of performances, mainly also musicals.

An important priority of the project was to reconcile the demands for the protection of the listed monument with the requirements of modern working procedures and safety standards.

Therefore, the planning of the different technical sectors had to be interwoven closely with the architectonic and historical aspects.
