Munich: The Prince’s TheatreFrom a „Wagner-Theatre“ to the Theatre AcademyIn 1901, 25 years after the opening of the festival theatre in Bayreuth, Munich also got a Wagner theatre after the model of Bayreuth. The project took many efforts, but finally the „Prince’s Theatre“ could be inaugurated, the first theatre built in consideration of democratic principles. The building is open to all sides. Also in side, all visitors are received and guided following the principles of equality. In World War II the theatre was strongly damaged and was closed in 1963. During a reconstruction in 1985 the stage was closed - and therefore savec. In 1993, upon the initiative of world wide known head of orchestra and director Prof. August Everding, the theatre became the place of the newly founded Theatre Academy. A theatre without stage – unimaginable! Thanks to his enormous energies and 7 Mill. DM of collected donations, August Everding succeeded in realising the project.
