Leipzig: Concert Hall of the Academy for Music

Scene technology

To obtain a continuity from the wooden ceiling and wall surfaces to the stage area, 14 mobile wall elements were installed that have the same structure as the walls. When used as a concert hall, these mobile wooden walls are moved to the side walls of the stage. Optically, audience and stage become one space. When the space is used as a theatre, the elements are turned around by 90° and are moved to the back. They then form a wall in front of the organ, serving at the same time as mechanical protection of the instrument.

Main element of the stage is an orchestra platform. In its lowest position, it constitutes an orchestra pit for opera performances, in its highest position it extends the surface of the stage for the big orchestra.

The upper machinery consists of nine fly bars. They serve for the mounting of sets.

For purposes of lighting for theatre performances, three lighting bridges were integrated into the ceiling of the audience. Alongside the audience, galleries were installed that serve for the placement of projectors for lateral lighting.
