Geneva: Grand TheatreThe Project: Renovation of the Upper MachinerySafety problems required a renovation of the stage technical equipment of the opera house from 1852 that had been rebuilt in 1961 after a fire. In 1995, the City Council approved the project of a renovation and modernisation of the upper machinery. For the construction period, the company moved to a newly built venue, a converted turbin hall. The renovation could be realised within one theatre season. The works started at the end of the season 1997. The main works were completed by May 1998. For the start of the season in September 1998, the new machinery was ready for use. The Geneva Opera House is run „en suite“ and receives numerous guest companies. Therefore, a quick and efficient mounting and dismounting of heavy set elements is particularly important. A priority of the new installation was a maximum number of point hoists and fly bars with high capacities.
